Correctional Centre nabs woman for attempting to smuggle phone into facility

Kano Nov. 21 2019 (NAN) A 40-year-old woman had been apprehended by men of the Nigeria Correctional Service at the Medium Security Custodial Centre Kano, for attempting to smuggle a mobile phone into the facility.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Kano Command of the Service, Malam Musbahu Lawal confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.
“(the lady), a resident of Gwammaja Quarters of Dala Local Government Area of the state, had on Wednesday, concealed a mobile phone in her bag with the intention of delivering it to a Condemned Convict serving jail term at the Centre,’’ he said.
Lawal said that the lady confessed to the crime when she was interrogated by officers of the centre.
NAN reports that only last week the men of the service also apprehended another lady who attempted to smuggle hard drugs into the same facility.
Both offenders according to the PRO were handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
The Kano State Command Controller, Magaji Abdullah, commended the effort of the men for intercepting illicit material.
Abdallah assured that the present administration led by CGC Jafaru Ahmed, maintained “a zero tolerance for trafficking of illicit items into the Custodial Centres across the country. (NAN)
