Corruption through Public Procurement: RoLAC trains PPA officers in Lagos

Lagos, June 19, 2019 (NAN) The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC) programme has organised a three-day training for Public Procurement Agency (PPA) officers in Lagos as part of efforts to check corruption through procurement.

The programme is a British Council-managed project, funded by the European Union (EU) in five states in the country as a pilot project.

The Coordinator of RoLAC, Mr Dala Pwanakei, said on Wednesday that the training was to ensure that all the processes in procurement, according to the law, are followed by the officers at all levels in the state.

Pwanakei said the training would present to the officers procurement process review templates and a code for conduct in carrying out their duties without compromise.

He said that the officers would also know the basics of code of conduct, an overview of the Lagos State public procurement agency’s code of conduct for public officers, contractors and civil society organisations.

The coordinator commended the Lagos state government for supporting the project, stressing that it was ahead others in the procurement processes.

Pwanakei said the feedback from the officers would assist RoLAC on the best way to carry out such projects in other states.

The General Manager of hat the PPA in Lagos, Mr Fatai Onafowote, commended RoLAC for the training, noting that it would help the officers to know what to do and the processes will be followed according to the templates they will receive.

According to Onafowote, the training will take the agency to their desirable levels in the procurement process, if the officers would be serious with the training.

He said that after the training, some officers would be assigned to different MDAs as monitoring officers and would be required to review the operations in such places. (NAN)
