Court remands 4 over alleged armed robbery, murder

Ile-Ife (Osun), July 6, 2017 (NAN) An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Thursday remanded four accused persons in prison over alleged armed robbery and murder.
The Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 7, around 1:15 p.m at Ifesowapo Community, Ilesa Road, Ile-Ife.
He gave the names of the accused as Dotun Adekunle, 27; Tope Falore, 27; Taiwo Moshood, 32, and Olawale Olowookere, 29.
Abdullahi said that the accused conspired by arming themselves with guns and robbed one Samuel Abimbola.
He said that they disposed the victim of two Nokia Phones, two Torchlight, Union Bank Cheque book and cash sum of N75,000, with total value of N124,000.
Abdullahi said that the accused persons conspired with each other to commit felony, to wit murder one Fayenuwo Dominic by shooting him with a gun which caused his death.
According to him, the offence was contrary to Section 6 (b) and punishable under sections 1 (1), (2), (a), (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special Provisions) Act Cap R11 Vol 14 Laws of Federation, 2004.
He added that the offence was contrary to Section 316 and punishable under sections 324 and 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol 11 Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the four-count-charge of conspiracy, intent to commit felony, armed robbery and murder.
The defence counsel, Mr Bolaji Adewale, who applied for the bail of the accused in most liberal terms, pledged that his clients would not jump bail, assuring that they would produce reliable sureties.
Magistrate Iyabo Salami did not grant the bail to the accused, saying her court lacks jurisdiction to try the case of armed robbery and murder.
Salami ordered the prosecutor to duplicate the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
She ordered for their remand in prison custody before their arraignment at the proper court.
Salami adjourned the case till July 13 for mention. (NAN)
