Court remands applicant pending sentencing

Abuja, June 13, 2019 (NAN) A Zuba Upper Area Court Abuja, on Thursday ordered that a 26-year-old applicant, who confessed to stealing a cell phones valued at N65,000, be remanded in prison pending sentencing.

The police arraigned Mohammed Aliyu, of N0 52 zone1 Dutse Alhaji Abuja, with house breaking and theft.

The Judge, Alhaji Gambo Garba, adjourned the case until June 19, for sentencing, after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that the complainants, Ngozie Eze and Okoye Henry all of zone 1 Dutse Alhaji Abuja, reported the incident at the Dutse Police Station on June 6.

Ogada said that at about 3 a.m. on June 6, Aliyu criminally and intentionally trespassed into the complainant’s compound through the fence.

He said that the defendant stole an Infinix hot 5 and Tecno cell phone all valued at N65, 000.

Ogada alleged that during police investigation and interrogation, the defendant admitted to committing the offence and the phone was recovered from him.

The offence, she said, contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
