Court slams N500,000 bail on man, 35 for alleged assault

Ile-Ife (Osun), April 13, 2018 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Friday, slammed a N500,000 bail on a 35-year-old man, Malomo Kayode, for alleged assault and disrespect to a court order.

Kayode had pleaded not guilty to a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault, disrespect of court judgment, and possession of charms with dangerous weapons.

Magistrate Adejumoke Ademola-Olowolagba, who admitted the accused to bail, ordered him to produce two sureties in like sum.

Ademola-Olowolagba ordered that the sureties must produce an affidavit of means, resides within the court’s jurisdiction, and present two recent passport photographs each.

She adjourned the case to April 27 for hearing.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 4 around 10:10 p.m. at Awosan Fasina Area, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused conspired and assaulted one Mayowa Olufemi and Odetayo Kayode.

He added that the accused had intentionally disrespected a court order; Suit No: MIF/M42/2016, a judgment delivered on July 5, 2017.

Osanyintuyi said the accused, who was in possession of one knife, a cutlass, wore armed jacket and publicly buried some charms on the disputed land.

The prosecutor stated that the offence contravened Sections 88 (a&b), 133 (9), 331 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The Defence Counsel, Mr A.O. Okuobra, applied for the bail of his client in most liberal term.

Okuobra said that the accused would not jump bail, as he had reasonable sureties to take him on bail. (NAN)
