Okitipupa (Ondo State), April 17, 2020 (NAN) A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Mr Morayo Lebi, on Friday donated N5,000 each to 120 indigent residents of Ondo South Senatorial District.

Lebi, a senatorial aspirant in the district, said at the forum that the gesture was to alleviate the hardship of the people during the lockdown occasioned by the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.

The Ikale-born politician said that the philanthropic gesture would soon be extended to widows, orphans and the handicapped.

“Apart from the money given to individual beneficiaries today, another N500, 000 has also been earmarked as palliatives.

“This is targeting the aged, widows, orphans and handicapped as part of numerous philanthropic gestures to put smiles on the faces of our people in a bid to cushion the effects of the hardship during this trying period,” he said.

He clarified that the donation was devoid of political undertone as the beneficiaries were randomly chosen in the six local council areas in the constituency.

The party  chieftain urged the beneficiaries to use the money solely to buy foodstuffs.

Lebi, a legal luminary, therefore, urged well-to-do people in the society to join hands with government at all levels to fight the coronavirus.

Mrs Maggi Rominious, a resident of Arogbo, lauded the gesture of the donor and prayed God to continue to prosper him.

“This is contrary to what some government officials have given out to the people in the name of palliatives when mere loaves of bread and some cups of rice were distributed.

“Barrister Lebi has been able to set the record straight and has done something more tangible and worthwhile.

“This cash donation will go a long way in alleviating our sufferings under  this stay-at-home order,” she said. (NAN)
