COVID-19: Chrisland varsity pledges technical assistance to Ogun govt.

Abeokuta, April 18, 2020 (NAN) Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Ogun, on Saturday pledged to offer technical assistance to the Ogun government in its ongoing efforts at combating the COVID-19 pandemic in the state.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Chinedum Babalola, made the pledge in Abeokuta while donating hand sanitisers and alcohol -based disinfectant sprays produced by the institution to the state government.

Babalola said that the university would stop at nothing in ensuring that every effort within its capacity was utilised to assist in combating the COVID-19 pandemic currently ravaging the world.

She explained that the sanitisers and the alcohol-based disinfectants were of World Health Organisation (WHO) standard, adding that “the university has the capacity to produce for Ogun government if requested to do so.”

The vice chancellor added that she would also offer her personal expertise as a pharmacist to proffer solution to the scourge.

Babalola, a professor of pharmacokinetics, had in February won the African Union Kwame Nkrumah Award for Scientific Excellence at the 33rd AU Summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

She commended the state government for its efforts in setting up functional isolation centres across the state as well as for continuous public advocacy and sensitisation among other steps being taken to check the spread of the pandemic.

The Deputy governor of Ogun, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, who received the items on behalf of the government, lauded the gesture of the institution.

She promised that the government would ensure transparent use of the items and other donations toward the containment of the pandemic in the state

Salako-Oyedele, who is the Chairman of the COVID-19 Task Force in the state, urged other tertiary institutions to emulate the good example of Chrisland University in combating the scourge.

The items donated were 12 cartons of hand sanitisers and five cartons of alcohol-based disinfectant sprays.(NAN)
