Hadejia (Jigawa), April 12,2020 (NAN) Most Hadejia residents in Jigawa on Sunday  complied with the  restriction of movement order imposed by the state government to prevent the spread of dreaded COVID-19.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) checks at two entrances to Hadejia town at Nguru and Mallammadori roads, revealed that traders from neighboring states were not allowed entrance into the town.

Alhaji Yusif Hakimi, Secretary, Hadejia COVID-19 Sensitization Committee, told NAN that the council had earlier imposed a ban on business transactions on market days.

“ Our strategy is to ensure that traders who visit Hadejia from neighboring states of Kano, Bauchi and Yobe on Sunday, a market day, have stopped coming.

“ This is one way of stopping the disease from spreading to Hadejia since we know that Kano and Bauchi have recorded cases of COVID-19,” he said.

Hakimi , however, said business transactions among Hadejia residents were allowed, provided they maintained social distancing during such transactions.

The scribe commended the residents for complying with the directive restricting movements and urged them to remain law-abiding.

Reacting to the lockdown, Mr. Nicholas Ogar, Chairman, Igbo Community Association in the area, said his members had fully complied with the directive.

He said the association had directed all its members to celebrate Easter in their various homes and avoid holding any gathering.

“ The lockdown has adverse effect on our means of livelihood, and forced some of our members to shelve their plans for travelling home to celebrate Easter.

“ However, it is only when you are alive and healthy that money or other good things in life can be useful to you.

“ That is the reason why we complied with the call to maintain basic hygiene and avoid physical contact with others to stop the spread of the disease,” Ogar said.

The chairman called on the state government to make adequate arrangement for containment of the disease, given that neighboring states of Bauchi and Kano had already recorded cases.(NAN)
