Calabar, Jan. 22, 2017  (NAN) The Cross River Government says it has commenced the construction of a Canadian model school in Obudu Local Government Area of the state  to boost tourism.

Dr Stephen Odey, the Executive Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Calabar on Sunday.

Odey said that the construction of the school was the outcome of a partnership deal between the state government and Canada.

He said the school located in Obudu would  boost the tourism potentials of the state.

“It is a replica of what is obtained in Canada. All the designs have been completed and we are awaiting the commencement of academic activities.

“The choice of Obudu is to take it closer to the Obudu Ranch Resort so that foreigners attending school there will use the opportunity to visit the ranch,” he said.

Odey also disclosed that  SUBEB had fully taken over the two model primary schools in Abi and Yalla local government areas of the state.

“We have taken full responsibilities of the two schools. This is the first time SUBEB is having its own school,” he stated. (NAN)
