Don urges university graduates to embrace sustainability, entrepreneurship

Abuja, March 13, 2020 (NAN) Prof. Anthony Nyong, Director, Climate Change and Green Growth, African Development Bank, Abidjan, Côte D’Ivoire, has urged university graduates to embrace sustainability and entrepreneurship.

Mr Seyifunmi Adebote, State Coordinator, International Climate Change Development Initiative in a statement on Friday in Abuja, said Nyong made the call during a closed-door meeting with Prof. Zana Akpagu, Vice Chancellor, University of Calabar.

Nyong said that the vice chancellor was doing a good work as regards rebranding the university.

He commended the effort put in by the university body to include entrepreneurship in the students’ curriculum.

“I came with a message of entrepreneurship, and I am happy to see that it has already taken root here,’’ he said.

The director, who was the Convocation Lecturer, University of Calabar 33rd Convocation Ceremony, thanked the vice chancellor for honouring him.

Nyong’s lecture themed: “The Fourth Industrial Revolution: Implications for Climate Change and Africa’s Sustainable Development”.

The lecturer stressed the need for young scholars to lead in Nigeria’s transition to low emission development that unlocks the wellbeing of Nigerians and boost the country’s economy.

Earlier, in his opening remark, Akpagu welcomed Nyong to the university and thanked him for honouring the invitation.

The Vice Chancellor also noted that Nyong had been the university’s first alumni to be invited to deliver a convocation lecture.

Akpagu also confirmed that the Liberian Vice President, Dr Jewel-Haward Taylor, was conferred with an honorary doctorate degree as part of the university’s 33rd convocation activities. (NAN)
