E-voting: Positive step towards advanced democracy in Nigeria – LG administrators

Zaria (Kaduna State), May 14, 2018 (NAN) Some Local Government Administrators in Kaduna State on Monday described the use of e-voting machines as a positive step towards making Nigeria’s democracy more advanced.
The administrators made the comments in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while reacting to the use of e-voting machines in the recent local government elections across Kaduna State.
Alhaji Abubakar Tanko-Soba, Administrator of Ikara Local Government Area, stressed the need for people of the state and Nigeria at large to appreciate the efforts of Gov. Nasiru El-Rufa’i on the innovation.
“The peaceful and successful conduct of Saturday’s local government polls across the state, using electronic voting machines, testified that Kaduna leads while others follow.
“We must therefore, commend and salute Malam Nasiru El-Rufa’i for standing firm to make Kaduna great politically and economically,” he said.
On his part, Alhaji Nasiru Abdu-Banki, Administrator, Soba Local Government Area, observed that the use of the machine had eased difficulties from many voting processes that needed to be done manually.
He said the machines had made the elections more convenient, with less efforts and time efficient.
Also commenting, the Administrator, Makarfi Local Government, Alhaji Abubakar Alhaji, called on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to borrow a leaf form Kaduna State in 2019 general elections.
“Kaduna has made history, there is the need for INEC to copy from Kaduna State, so that Nigerians can test the fruits of this innovation.
“We are happy, the election was conducted peacefully and successfully; apart from that, it consumed less time, compared to the normal manual voting system,” he noted.
The administrators collectively appealed to politicians in the state to accept the will of God in good faith, advising that election should not be seen as a do or die affair. (NAN)
