Engineer bags 3 years for attempting to steal from employer

Ikeja, March 9, 2020 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday sentenced a 32-year-old engineer, Olasunkanmi Idowu, to three years’ in prison for attempting to steal his employer’s 15kva Mikano generator part.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs S.K. Matepo found Idowu guilty of attempted theft and ordered that he should be jailed at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre, Lagos State.
Matepo, however, gave the engineer an option of N50,000 fine.
She held that the sentence would serve as a deterrent to others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the case started on June 1, 2016.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Odugbo, the engineer committed the offence on March 13, 2016, at ATC Nig. Ltd. premise at Ikorodu, Lagos.
Odugbo said that the convict was caught by security guards as he was about to steal the generator engine part worth N1. 144, 500, in contravention of Section 21 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. (NAN)
