Kaduna, March 17, 2020 (NAN) A former Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in  Kaduna State, Mrs Jummai Yari, on Tuesday advised women journalists to learn new trades outside the profession, to be economically independent and self reliant.
Yari made the call in Kaduna, in a presentation during the celebration organised by Kaduna State chapter of NAWOJ to mark the International Women’s Day.
She said having different sources of income would empower women, help them in having better self esteem and map a greater future for themselves and their families.
Yari, who spoke on drug abuse among women, children and youths in the society, called on parents to rise up to their responsibilities by monitoring the kind of peer groups their children relate with.
On his part, Mr Andrew Fadason, a former chairman of NUJ Kaduna state council, called on women to be part of building enduring peace in their homes and communities.
“Peace is a necessity to humanity, and in any aspect where peace is missing, all other facets of development are lost.
“Women should be engaged in peace promotion, building harmonious relations and mutual respect among the diverse communities in the country.
“This is necessary so that peace will overtake current crisis, wars and conflicts the world is experiencing today,” Fadason said.
The state Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalist, Adamu Yusuf commended NAWOJ for organizing the programe, set set aside globally to celebrate women contributions to development.
Earlier, NAWOJ chairperson in the state, Hajiya Fatima Aliyu said the association is seeking collaboration with the 23 Local Government areas in the state to provide empowerment training to women.(NAN)
