Minna, July 13, 2017 (NAN) A Minna Magistrates’ Court in Niger on Thursday sentenced a farmer, Suleiman Danjuma, to 18 months imprisonment for enticing a married woman.

The convict had pleaded not guilty when he was first arraigned in August 2016 on a two-count charge of enticing a married woman and criminal charm, contrary to Sections 389 and 317 of the Penal Code.

The matter was adjourned till Thursday for judgment, following a long drawn trial that saw the prosecution call eight witnesses to prove its case while the defendant called two witnesses.

The Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Aliyu Malami, had told court, when the matter first came up, that a case of defamation was reported at a Chief Magistrates’ Court by the accused against one Nafisah Rabiu, Yakubu Suleiman and Rekiya Yakubu.

Malami noted that during the course of investigation, it was discovered that the accused had actually gone to Mrs Nafisah Rabiu’s house and lured her to a nearby bush where he attempted to have sex with her.

Malami said the accused was said to have handed charms to his victim, claiming that she will not get pregnant if she had sex with him.

Delivering judgment, the Magistrate Hamza Muazu, dismissed the second charge against the defendant on the grounds that there was no evidence to prove the allegation.

He, however, found the defendant guilty of the first charge, based on the evidence adduced by the prosecution and subsequently, sentenced him to 18 months imprisonment.

The convict was however, given an option to pay a fine of N30, 000 (NAN)
