Warri (Delta), Aug. 9, 2019 (NAN) A group, PHEW Foundation, on Friday lauded the Delta Government’s resilience to end human trafficking and modern day slavery in the state.
The Director-General of the outfit, Mrs Chigbo Uche, made the remarks in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Warri.
She called on Christians and Islamic leaders, parents, schools, individuals and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to join in the advocacy against human trafficking.
The PHEW chief blamed the development on the quest for quick-rich syndrome in the society.
Uche urged governments at all levels to create the enabling business environment for people to be gainfully engaged.
She described Delta as second in the country among states with the highest prevalence cases of human trafficking and modern day slavery.
Uche said the inauguration of a task force against human trafficking, headed by Mr Peter Mrakpor, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Delta, would reduce human trafficking.
“We commend Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta for leading the fight in abolishing the modern day slavery and human trafficking in the state.
“Delta is the second highest among the states with prevalent rate of human trafficking cases in the country,’’ she said. (NAN)
