Hair stylist in court for allegedly receiving stolen cell phone

Ikeja, March 15, 2018 (NAN) A 40-year-old hair stylist, Evelyn Oghenekaro, was on Thursday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly receiving a stolen cell phone valued at N150, 000.

The accused, a resident of Toyin-Davies Street in Ejigbo area of Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and receiving stolen item.

The prosecutor, ASP. Edet Okoi, told the court that Oghenekaro committed the offences sometimes in August, 2017 at No. 1, Gbadamosi Bakare Close, Ejigbo, Lagos.

Okoi alleged that the accused received the stolen cell phone from Ikechukwu, now at large, property of Mr Sunday Zirangey.

According to Okoi, Zirangey was tricked by a group of suspected fraudsters who hypnotised him to bring his parents valuables, jewellery and two phones.

He added that the police tracked the defendant through the IMEI of the phone, which was found to be in her possession.

Okoi said that during police investigation the accused could not prove ownership of the cell phone.

The offences contravened Sections 326 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 411 stipulates two years jail for conspiracy.

The case was adjourned until April 16. (NAN)
