Ikorodu (Lagos State), April 13, 2018 (NAN) An Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos state, on Friday, remanded a 32-year-old domestic worker, Daniel Adavwo, charged with defilement, in prison.
Adavwo’s alleged victim is said to be the daughter of his master, in whose residence he lives at Rofo Estate, Ikorodu.
The prosecutor, Sgt. John Iberedem, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 3, at about 2 p.m. in his master’s apartment.
“He was ironing clothes and the girl’s sister was in the sitting room watching films, and suddenly, they heard the girl crying.
“When everybody rushed to check why the girl was crying, she said that the houseboy robbed pepper in her bum.
“The mother wasn’t comfortable, so she checked her daughter’s private parts and saw blood. The houseboy was arrested and the girl was taken to the hospital.
“The hospital reports confirmed defilement and broken hymen,” he explained.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 stipulates a life imprisonment on conviction.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs F. A. Azeez, ruled that the accused be remanded in prison custody pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in the state.
Azeez adjourned the case until May 10. (NAN)
