Jobless man, 22, gets N500,000 bail over alleged break-in, N2.1m property theft

Lagos, Sept. 18, 2017 (NAN) An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday released an applicant, Edmund Dambo, on N500,000 bail, charged with stealing property worth N2.1 million.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi, while granting the accused bail, said he should provide two sureties in like sum.

Osunsami said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.

The 22-year old, an applicant, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing brought against him.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Imhonwa, said the accused and others now at large committed the offences at No. 1, Richfield Ave., Ajao Estate, Lagos, at 1.00 a.m. on Aug. 17.

He alleged that the accused and others broke into the apartment of the complainant, Mr Ubah Ikenna, to steal.

“The complainant saw the accused coming out of his apartment with his accomplices, but when he raised an alarm they ran away.”

Imhonwa said items taken away include one Omega wristwatch, five gold necklaces and earrings and three sets of gold necklace with some cash, all valued at N2.1 million, belonging to the complainant’s wife.

The offences contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The case has been adjourned until Nov. 14 for trial. ‎(NAN)
