Jordan imposes multiple travel bans in bid to block virus’ spread

Ban
Amman, March 10, 2020 (dpa/NAN) Jordan has imposed travel bans to and from France, Germany, Lebanon, Spain and Syria, says Health Minister Saad Jaber, as the country tries to protect itself from a coronavirus outbreak.

One Jordanian has tested positive for the coronavirus. Almost 300 have been put in quarantine, 219 of whom were released after testing negative for the virus.

The ban on Germany, France and Spain will go into effect starting on Monday, Jaber told a news conference.

The country’s border crossings with Israel and Iraq will also be closed to passengers, though transport of goods will still be allowed.

Jordan also banned ferry travel to and from Egypt and reduced flights by 50 per cent, only allowing necessary travel, Jaber added. (dpa/NAN)
