Kano, Jan., 28 2017 (NAN) Kano State Ministry of Environment has summoned a cooking oil company, Fortune Oil Company, over its improper waste disposal procedures.
The Commissioner for Environment, Dr Ali Makoda, gave the order in Kano on Friday, while monitoring the monthly sanitation of motor parks, offices and markets in the city.
Makoda said that the odour oozing out of the company’s plant had been particularly worrisome to residents of the area who reported the matter to the government.
“We visited the drainage where the waste pass through and noticed that the bad smell was unbearable and can wreak havoc to the people’s health.
“We also visited the company but met only the security guards on duty, so we have summoned the management to meet with us at the ministry,’’ he said.
The commissioner, who led a monitoring team to Sabongari Motor Park, also complained of the poor sanitation of the park.
Makoda, who similarly visited the state Ministry of Agriculture complex, expressed satisfaction with the cleanliness of its premises and urged other ministries to emulate it.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commissioner personally supervises the monthly sanitation of motor parks, workplaces and markets on the last Friday of every month. (NAN)
