Katsina SSG urges journalists to put nation’s interests first

Katsina, July 27,2019 (NAN) The Secretary to the Government of Katsina State (SSG), Mr Mustapha Inuwa, has urged practicing journalists in the country to always put the interest of the nation first while discharging their duties.

Inuwa made the call on Saturday in Katsina in a keynote address at the opening of one-day workshop for practicing journalists organised by Nonviolent Peace Institute in collaboration with Absolute Press.

The theme of the workshop is “News Reporting for National Stability.”

“While the state, Federal government and security agents have strived to contain the situation, their efforts however get overshadowed through reports that lay more emphasis on the atrocities committed on communities by criminals.

“Thus, I call on the organisers of this workshop to bring anomalies of this nature to the fore.

“I may also appeal to practicing journalists to ensure that they discharge their civic responsibility within the boundaries of reasoning and moderation.

“A responsible press, I believed, is a critical stakeholder in national development,”he said.

Earlier, the Chief Executive of Absolute Press, Mr Emeka Nwankpa, said the objective of the workshop was to address the challenges security threats posed to the media as a critical stakeholder in the quest for peace in the nation.

“This form the rationale behind the theme: “News Reporting for National Stability.”

“The concept of Nigeria first should concern all Nigerians and governments.

“The security of one is the responsibility of all, the insecurity of one is the insecurity of all,”he said.

He expressed optimism that  at the the workshop, the participants’ capacity in reporting current security challenges would be enhanced.

According to him, it would  also promote their patriotism and professional excellence. (NAN)
