Katsina state CJ to set up Community Resettlement Centres

Katsina, May 7,2019(NAN) Katsina State Chief Judge, Justice Musa Danladi, says the state judiciary will establish Community Resettlement Centres to help tackle prison congestion and endemic societal problems.

Danladi made the disclosure on Tuesday in Katsina when officials of Journalists for Accountability and Good Governance Initiative (JAGGI) paid him a courtesy visit.

He said that the centre would also engage in community policing and resolve communal issues without necessarily going to court, so as to promote peaceful co-existence in the society.

According to him, the state had recorded no fewer than 2,000 criminal cases in 2018 alone.

The chief judge assured that the state judiciary would work with the journalists particularly in the area of training, to deepen their knowledge of the judiciary and the quality of their reports.

Earlier, the group’s leader, Mr Lawal Saidu, said that the forum was initiated and nurtured by the British Department for International Development (DFID) under its State Accountability Voice Initiative.

He said that even with the expiration of the programme in Nigeria, the forum continued to thrive by keeping alive the vision and values of the original concept.

He urged the state judiciary to support the initiative by organising a special training for journalists on the coverage of the judiciary.(NAN)
