Kwara Speaker tasks Baruten FM on nation building

Kosubosu (Kwara), March 20, 2020 (NAN) The Speaker, Kwara House of Assembly, Malam Danladi Salihu, has charged the management of Baruten FM radio station to sensitised, enlighten and mobilise citizens on nation building.

Salihu made the call on Friday in Kosubosu, the headquarters of Baruten Local Government Area of the state, when he received the technical team of the radio station.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 9th Assembly under the leadership of Salihu had appropriated funds for the establishment of a radio station in the area sequel to the proposal by the state government.

NAN reports that the speaker, who hailed from the local government area that shared an international border with the Republic of Benin, was in Kosubosu since Monday to supervise the screening of civil servants in the state.

Residents of the border communities rarely receive signal from media stations in Ilorin, except from radio stations in the neighbouring Benin Republic.

Receiving the team, the speaker explained that Baruten communities and a larger part of the Kwara North were detached from other part of the state.

He added that this was due to lack of access to information about socio-economic and political activities as well as government policies and programmes.

“Our people’s source of information is through radio stations from Benin Republic and at times, radio stations in Oyo State. They don’t have access to information from their own state.

“This informed the need for a radio station that will fill this information gap and connect our people to the rest of Kwarans,’’ he said.

He commended Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of the state for swiftly approving the project and the Commissioner for Communication, Alhaji Muritala Olarewaju, for his commitment to deliver the project.

He, however, charged the technical team to shun any form of parochial consideration and ensure a suitable location that would guarantee the best coverage for the radio station.

The leader of the team, Mr Yahayah Ibrahim-Wood, had earlier extolled the uncommon passion and patriotism of the speaker.

Ibrahim-Wood, who also is the Director of Personnel, Finance and Supply of the State Ministry of Communication, noted that a typical African man would have directed that the FM station be sited in his country home; Gwanara.

The team leader lauded the speaker for the warm reception and solicited for further support that would ensure the quick completion of the project.

In his remark, the Director of Personnel Management (DPM) of the Local Government Council, Malam Tsadiku Mohammed, also hailed the speaker for what he described as ideal representation of the people of the area.

He assured the state government of 100 per cent support of the people in the border area. (NAN)
