Kyari: Groups in Kogi extole virtues of dedication, loyalty

Dedication

By Friday Idachaba

Lokoja, April 18, 2020 (NAN) Some members of the Civil Society in Kogi on Saturday extolled the virtues of high level dedication and loyalty exhibited by the late Chief of Staff to the President, Malam Abba Kyari.

Speaking with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja, the respondents said the president and Nigerians in general would surely miss Kyari, who died on Friday from Coronavirus complications.

Mr Sam Owoyomi, Chairman of Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Lokoja Branch, said the deceased discharged his duties with utmost dedication and loyalty.

Owoyomi said Kyari’s death had created a vacuum that would be hard to fill, in view of his high-level service to the nation, which he discharged creditably.

He added that the Bar was also saddened and pained for losing one of its own.

“He had put in his very best to the service of this country over a long time. From reports that I hear, he discharged himself creditably and he had really assisted the president in performing his functions.

“So, there’s going to be a vacuum in that area. We feel pained and we feel unhappy, but It’s a thing we can do nothing about.

“We pray for his family, we pray for the wife and the children that God will comfort them.

“We have lost loyalty in his death; we have lost active and good service; we have lost dedication to duty. We pray God to grant the president the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss,” he said.

Meanwhile, former chairman of the Lokoja Branch of NBA, Mr Williams Aliwo, described the death of Kyari as a big blow to the Presidency and Nigeria in general, with particular regard to the pivotal role Kyari played in the administration.

“No matter how bad we feel about his dealings in the reign of things while he was alive, death is death and our sympathy goes to his immediate family and the Government of the Federation.

“We pray God to grant him eternal rest,” Aliwo said.

Mr Idris Miliki, Executive Director, Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution (CHRCR), said by the virtue of the position the late Chief of Staff occupied, serving the nation at one of the highest levels, he would be surely missed.

Describing him as a quiet achiever, highly educated and well experienced, Miliki said the nation had lost his dedication to duty and would surely miss him.

“Kyari was highly dedicated to his duty and that was why you saw him everywhere and even in courts on cases that concerned the president.

“The president will be missing his dedication and his experience,” he said.

In his views, Dr Akoh Ojonugwa, a lecturer with Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, described the world as ‘very temporal’ with death as the ultimate end for both the rich and the poor.

He prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Chief of Staff and enjoined all to lead a life of service to God and to humanity; leaving behind legacies for which they would be remembered. (NAN)
