LASG holds stakeholders’ meeting on improving healthcare delivery for Ikorodu residents

Ikorodu(Lagos state), March, 12, 2020(NAN) The Lagos State Health Management Commission on Thursday held a stakeholders’ meeting on quality improvement of health care delivery to residents of Ikorodu area of the state.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the forum, held at Ikorodu Town Hall, was attended by senior state health officials, traditional rulers and community leaders in the area.
Speaking at the meeting, Dr Adebayo Aderiye, Chairman, Lagos State Health Service Commission, urged residents to exercise patience when visiting government hospitals and advised health officers to also exhibit good attitude towards the patients.
According to Aderiye, there are not enough medical personnel in all general hospitals in Lagos to cope with the overwhelming large numbers of patients.
He commended the the management of Ikorodu General Hospital and urged them to continue to improve their service delivery.
“The message to is to let people understand that the hospital belongs to them, we are there because they are there.
“We have started training medical officers on attitudinal change, so I advise the public to be patient anytime they get to the hospital,” he said.
Speaking at the meeting, Ikorodu monarch, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, urged indigenes to study medicine to bridge the skills gap, while private universities should reduce tution to attract more students.
The monarch, who was represented by Chief Kayode Olomo, Baale Ojogbe, promised to provide a piece of land to build hospital in Igbogbo-Baiyeku council area.
A stakeholder, Imam Bashir Maja, appealed to the Lagos State Government to build more hospitals in Ikorodu division in view of the rising population of the area.
Maja said that government should also recruit more health personnel to give more patients access to medical services.
The Iya Oloja of Ikorodu, Alhaja Taofikat Allinson, appealed to the state hospital management to give more attention to aged people.
Mrs Elizabeth Otenaike, a retired nurse, advised the hospital management to digitize their medical procedure to reduce bureaucracy in health service delivery.
Responding, the Medical Director, Ikorodu General Hospital, Dr Olufunmilayo Bankole, promised that all the suggestions at the meeting would be priotised and given prompt attention.
Bankole said that the stakeholders’ meeting was to get feedback to enhance service delivery as well as ensure that the services were tailored towards their needs.
She advised residents to be patient and abide with the laid down procedure as well as the hospital appointment process.
“We are passionate about improving the health care delivery service that we are rendering to our clients.
“What we are aiming at is to actually exceed the expectations of our clients and we are working tirelessly and will do anything we need to do to get to that level.
“We have noted some of their suggestions and will begin to implement them one after the other, by God’s grace when next we are having this meeting, we will be counting on our successes.
NAN reports that the hospital management also sensitised the stakeholders on the dreaded coronavirus and how to prevent it.(NAN)
