Nsukka (Enugu State)  April 9, 2020 (NAN) Chief Samuel Asadu, the traditional ruler-elect of Ubogidi/Ozara community in Nsukka Local Government of Enugu State has donated bags of rice and beans to be shared to the poor in the community.

Asadu said in Nsukka on Thursday that the aim was to complement the federal and Enugu State governments’ efforts in ensuring that the vulnerable had food to eat while staying home.

The traditional ruler, who was represented by his Personal Assistant,  Mr John Okanyi, while sharing the  food items to beneficiaries, said he would continue to ensure that the welfare of the vulnerable were taken care of.

“”I urge all the people in the community to continue to be good citizens by being law-abiding as well as obeying all government directives to contain COVID-19 spread.

“If government says we should stay-at-home in order to save the people from the pandemic, it is better than moving about and allowing the situation to get out of control,” he said.

In a remark, Ms Onyinye Ozioko, the Councilor representing Edem Ani in Nsukka Legislative Council commended the traditional ruler-elect for providing food items to the people during the lockdown.

“I am not surprised that the traditional ruler will do this because he had done so many things in the past for his people.

“Last year, Asadu built and equipped 20-bed space hospital for the community.

“Everyone in the community is treated in this hospital free-of-charge because Asadu pays the doctors and nurses as well as provide drugs for the hospital,” she said.

Ozioko urged Enugu State government to do the needful by giving staff of office to Asadu that would make him a full-fledged monarch as he had done a lot for his people.

“If not because of the shutdown of the airport in US as result of COVID-19, Asadu would have been here in person as he comes home frequently from US,” she said.

Some of the beneficiaries prayed God to continue to bless the royal father for his kind gesture especially to the downtrodden in the community.
