Ilorin, April 15, 2020 (NAN) A healthcare expert, Mrs Wasila Abdulrauf, has advised Nigerians to embrace exercise and cleanliness, especially during this lockdown period, to avoid sickness and boredom.
Mrs Abdulrauf, a Matron, gave the advice while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Ilorin on how to prevent boredom, at the same time get occupied with reasonable things.
NAN recalls that the Kwara Government had on April 10, ordered for a total lockdown of all the 16 local government areas of the state in an effort to stop the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19), after four tested positive for the virus.
The state government directed that there should be no vehicular movement, but allowed four hours shoping on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays weekly, from 8 a.m to 12 p.m, to enable people patronise markets in their neighbourhood.
The expert said that there are different indoor exercises that people could engage in, and it would not require paying a coach for training or going outside the house.
“All we need to do is to browse on different types of indoor exercises on our smart phones, pick the one that will be comfortable and interesting, then start exercising.
“Exercise helps to build the body system, keep the body fit and strong. It also helps to cure some sickness and enhance good sleep,” she said.
She said that cleanliness is also very important, adding that there is need to take a shower after exercising the body, by washing away the sweat and feel refreshed and cool.
Wasila however said that house chores is another form of exercise that help to keep the body fit and at the same time maintaining good hygiene, which is important for good health.
“There are lots of work that needs to be done at home, in order for the house to look good and clean at all time; part of which is sweeping and moping, washing the toilets and clearing the compound.
“Many people belief house chores are meant for girls and wives, but men can as well engage in house cleaning and it will be of benefit to them at the same time a way to unite the family,” she said.
The expert said that house work can never finish, as long as people live in the house, there will be one or two things to do.
“There are many areas that have been left undone for a long time, due to lack of time to do it, while there are areas that some items had hidden and had been forgotten or believed to have been lost.
“This lockdown should be an opportunity for people to arrange their house, clear the kitchen, rooms and surroundings that needs to be thoroughly cleaned.
“You will be surprised at the lots of discovery that will be made, in terms of lost items, dirty areas, forgotten clothings and shoes, and even some money.
” Thereby keeping yourself busy and happy at the same time, as all the things mentioned above cannot be thoroughly done in a day, not even a week,” she said. (NAN)
