Ilorin, April 25, 2020 (NAN) The Agricultural and Entrepreneurial Skills Development Initiative for Women and Youths (AESDIW&Y) an NGO, has distributed food and other items to 60 less-privileged women in seven communities in Ilorin.
Dr Modupe Ogunniyi, National Coordinator of AESDIW&Y, who supervised distribution of the items on Saturday in Tanke, Oke-Odo, Gago, Jalala, Balogun, Aleniboro and Agbede communities, said the gesture was to cushion the effects of lockdown, as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Ogunniyi, said apart from the food stuffs, the NGO was also giving out face masks, sanitisers, as well as clothing to assist the people at this critical moment.
She, however, advised the people to adhere to the guidelines set by the World Health Organisation (WHO), in order to win the fight against the global pandemic and minimise casualties.
According to her, the sensitisation and distribution of palliatives to communities was part of the NGO’s response to social issues in the society.
A volunteer of the NGO, Dr Olusolape Ogunniyi, was on hand to educate the people on preventive measures to curb spread of the dreaded disease.
The volunteer highlighted the importance of social distancing, frequent hand washing, use of face masks and maintenance of personal hygiene, among others, as the most important practices in curbing spread of COVID-19.
She urged the people to seek immediate medical assistance if they felt any symptoms that could be similar to those of coronavirus.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the programme was held in strict adherence to the social distancing guidelines of WHO.
Representatives of the communities all expressed deep appreciation to the NGO for the show of love.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Muslimat Lukman and Mrs Sarah Bulu, both commended the NGO for the gesture. (NAN)
