Ilorin, April 11, 2020 (NAN) Ilorin recorded total compliance to the lockdown to curb the spread of the Coronavirus in the state as roads were deserted and shops remained closed.
A Correspondent of the Newsncy of Nigeria (NAN) who went round the city on Saturday reports that residents of the state capital remained indoors.
Busy areas like Micheal Imodu, Offa garage, Post Office and Challenge were like ghost towns as everywhere was quiet.
There was no vehicular movement, filling stations were under lock and key, as security agents manned the streets with road blocks to enforce compliance.
One of the residents, Mr Isiaka Suleiman in the Ita-Alamu area, said the lockdown order was too sudden for the residents.
“The lockdown notice was too short. We are not prepared; but we are forced to comply with the directive. It was less than 24 hours notice,” he said.
Another, Mr Femi Onilede, said Ilorin was silent like a burial ground.
“It is like a burial ground. Everywhere is silent. I have never experienced such before in my life.
“Even during the fuel subsidy saga in 2012, it was not as silent as this,” he said.
NAN reports that the Kwarate government on Thursday announced the total lockdown of the state as part of efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic which commenced on Friday. (NAN)
