Man, 27, in court over alleged shop breaking, stealing of cartons of beer

Ado-Ekiti, March 9, 2020 (NAN) A 27-year-old man, Lekan Olumodi, on Monday, appeared before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrates’ Court over alleged shop breaking, stealing of a generator and a carton each of Trophy and Goldberg beer.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a two-count charge of shop breaking and stealing, to which, he, however, pleaded not guilty.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Olubu Apata, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Feb.19, at about 3:30 am. at Olorunda Community in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant broke into the shop of the complainant, one Adamolekun Abosede, and carted away a Tiger generator, valued at N35,000, bottles of alcoholic beverages, estimated at N20,000 and a carton each of Trophy and Goldberg beer.
Apata said that the offences contravened Section 413(i) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2020.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
However, the Defence Counsel, Mr Timi Omotosho, urged the court to grant his client bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.
Awosika, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 6, for hearing. (NAN)
