Man, 29, allegedly steals bus at Alausa Secretariat

Ikeja, April 11, 2019 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday granted a N250,000 bail to a man alleged to have stolen a Toyota Hiace bus, valued at N7 million.

The defendant, Ajayi Dare, 29, of no fixed address, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Olufunke Sule-Amzat, ordered the defendant to provide two sureties as part of his bail conditions.

The sureties, according to Sule-Amzat, must be blood relations with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, had told the court that the defendant, on Feb. 25, stole the bus from where it was parked at the premises of the Lagos State Government Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.

He said that the defendant, with others now at large, stole the Toyota bus, marked FST 283 BS, being property of the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure.

According to him, the defendant used a master key to gain access to the bus.

“He was, however, apprehended and handed over to the police by security guards when he could not give a satisfactory answer to how he came about the vehicle,” he said.

The offence, according to him, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The case has been adjourned till June 3 for hearing. (NAN)
