Man, 30, faces child defilement charge, gets N500, 000 bail

Lagos, July 14, 2017 (NAN) A 30-year-old man, Emmanuel Okon, on Friday appeared before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos charged with defiling a 13-year-old girl.

He was, however, released on N500,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

The accused is being tried for child defilement to which he pleaded not guilty.

But the Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin insisted that the accused committed the offence on July 11 at 6.00 a.m. at
No. 20, Bello St., Orile-Iganmu, a Lagos suburb.

She said the accused had lured the girl into his apartment before defiling her.

The offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the offence attracts life imprisonment, according to the Criminal Law.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Oluyemisi Adelaja, adjourned further hearing until Aug. 23. (NAN)
