Man, 38, jailed 2 years over oral sex involving minor

Jos, July 17, 2017 (NAN) A Jos Upper Area Court sitting at Kasuwan Nama, has sentenced a 38-year-old man, Shehu Baba, to two years imprisonment for forcing a five-year-old girl to perform oral sex on him.

Baba, a resident of Rikkos, in Jos North, was charged with an act of gross indecency, contrary to section 285 of the Penal Code.

The judge, Mr Yahaya Mohammed, handed down the sentence after Baba pleaded guilty to the crime and begged for leniency.

In his plea, Baba attributed his action to “a push by the devil”.

“It was the devil that pushed me to do it. Henceforth, I will comport myself and be of good behaviour. I will not allow sexual desires to ruin me.

“Have mercy on me, I will not repeat it again,” he said.

The judge, who did not give the convict an option of fine, said that the sentence was meant to serve as a deterrent to those who might want to engage in similar acts.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Mr E.A Inegbenoise, had told the court that the crime was committed “several times in the month of May 2017.

“From the account given to the police, the accused severally lured the little girl into his room and forced her to suck his manhood.

“The act continued for several days until Baba was caught by a neighbour,” he said.

The prosecutor quoted the victim as telling investigators that the accused had, on several occasions, forced her to perform oral sex on him and warned her not to tell anyone. (NAN)
