Man accused of contempt of court remanded in prison

Ile-Ife (Osun), June 7, 2019 (NAN) An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday remanded a 32-year-old man, Adewale Odunlade, in prison custody over alleged contempt of court.

The Prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 18 at about 9:00 am at a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant absented himself from the court on the adjourned date.

He added that the defendant deliberately disrespected the order of the court by his refusal to appear before the court on the said day.

According to him, the defendant was aware of the date of his case with charge No: MIF/050c/2018; CoP vs Akinpelu Bose & two others.

The Prosecutor said further that the offence contravened Section 133 (1) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The accused, who was not represented by a counsel, pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of contempt of court.

Magistrate Olukunle Owolawi ordered the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife prison.

He adjourned the case till June 27 for hearing.(NAN)
