Man bags 3 months jail for phone theft

Theft
Abuja, March 26, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday, sentenced a 26-year-old man, Aleke Kelechukwu, to three months in prison for stealing a N50,000 cell phone.

The Judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, said since the accused had pleaded guilty to the charge, the court had no option than to sentence him accordingly.

He, however, gave the convict a N10,000 option of fine and advised him to be of good behaviour after serving out his punishment.

Kelechukwu of Chisco Transport Company, Utako, Abuja, was charged under Section 288 of the Penal Code for stealing.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Florence Auhioboh, told the court that the matter was
reported by Theophilus Suswan of Chisco Transport Company, Utako, Abuja at Utako Police Station on March 12.

Auhioboh said that on the same date, a passenger from Ghana plugged a Microsoft Lumia soft touch phone at the reception hall and slept off.

She said the convict woke up about 1 a.m. and criminally made away with the phone.

She explained that the convict was arrested on March 16 with the cell phone trying to
sell the phone.

The prosecutor said that the convict confessed to having stolen the phone during police investigation. (NAN)
