Abuja, May 17, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old man, Idris Isa, to six months imprisonment for joint act, house-breaking and theft.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.

Sadiq also ordered Isa to pay N250, 000, as compensation to the nominal complainant.

Isa who resides at Karmo, was convicted on a three-count charge of joint act, house- breaking and theft.

The convict, who pleaded guilty to the offences, urged the court to temper justice with mercy and promised to be of good behaviour.

The prosecutor, Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that one Daniel Christian, of same address with the convict, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station, Abuja, on April 30.

He said that on April 27, at about 4p.m., while the complainant was sleeping, the convict and others now at large broke into his room.

Dalhatu said the convict formed criminal intention and stole the complainant’s Samsung plasma television, Tecno cell phone, and N250, 000 cash.

The prosecutor said that during police investigation, the convict confessed to the crime.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 347 and 288 of the Penal Code.(NAN)
