Man,34, in court for allegedly stealing N240,000

Ikeja, March 5, 2020 (NAN) A 34-year-old man, Abiodun Adejare, who allegedly stole N240,000 from another man was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

 

The defendant, a former employee of an  Insurance Company and a  resident  of  3, Aboleja St., Sango Ota, Ogun , is being  tried for stealing.

 

The prosecutor, W/Sgt. Chekube Okeh,  told the court that the defendant committed the offence  on May 2018 at Ijaiye Ojokoro,a suburb of  Lagos.

 

Okeh alleged that the defendant collected N240, 000 from one  Mr Oluwafemi Oke on false pretences that he would  help him invest the amount in a policy in their company – Capital Express Assurance.

 

The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant failed to invest the money and thereafter, he left the company.

 

Okeh also alleged that when the complainant went to the company, he was told that the defendant had left and no money was found in the complainant’s account.

 

The prosecutor said that the case was reported at the police station and the defendant was arrested.

 

The prosecutor  said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

 

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

 

Chief Magistrate J.A. Adegun admitted the defendant to a  bail of N500, 000 with one surety in like sum.

 

Adegun then  adjourned the case until April 4 for mention. (NAN)
