Keffi (Nasarawa State), May 1, 2019 (NAN) The Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi, has urged Nigerians to appreciate the efforts of workers toward the development of the country.

Abdullahi made appeal in a statement made available by his Press Secretary, Mr Jibrin Gwamna, to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi on Wednesday in commemoration of this year’s Workers Day.

He described the Day as significant in the quest of the labour union in struggling for better working conditions and improved welfare for civil servants in the country.

The speaker said that the importance of workers to the development of the country and the society at large cannot be overemphasized, hence the need for all and sundry to appreciate their efforts.

He also described workers as engine room of governments, hence the need for effective partnership and understanding to build an egalitarian society.

While congratulating workers on their day, Abdullahi however enjoined them not to relent in contributing their quota to the development of the country.

The number three citizen also advised labour unions to always use dialogue in their agitations instead of strike.

He added that strikes embarked upon by workers in the past had done more harm than good, hence the need for workers to always embrace dialogue and shun strike.

He assured workers of the state House of Assembly of continued commitment to support and encourage the state government to improve their welfare.

The speaker further restated his leadership commitment to enact laws that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the state. (NAN)
