Motor cyclist bags 6 weeks imprisonment, 4 strokes for stealing phone

Abuja, June 7, 2017 (NAN) An Upper Area Court, Gudu, Abuja, has sentenced 29 year-old motor-cyclist, Hassan Abubakar, to six weeks imprisonment with four strokes of the cane for stealing a mobile phone valued at N55,000.
Abubakar, of Garki village admitted to the crime and was convicted on one-count charge of theft by the judge Mr Umar Kagarko on Wednesday.
Kagarko however gave the convict an option to pay N6, 000 fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Fidelis Ogbobe, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Ogechi Ikeh of Garki Model Market, reported the theft at Garki police station on June 2.
He said the convict came to the complainant’s shop and stole her Infinix phone valued at N55, 000.
Ogbobe said that during police investigation, the stolen phone was recovered from the convict who had thrown away the SIM card and admitted to the crime.
He said the offence was contrary to Section 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
