Ilorin, April 11, 2020 (NAN) The Kwara Chairman of the Technical Committee on COVID-19, Mr Kayode Alabi, has commended the residents and security agents for making it possible to achieve high level of compliance of the total lockdown order in the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the state government imposed a total lockdown of the state on April 10, as part of efforts to contain the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Assessing the level of compliance in some strategic areas in Ilorin on Saturday, Alabi, who is also the Deputy Governor of the state, said the level of compliance was impressive.

The areas inspected included Oja Oba, Idi Ape, Omoda, Oke-Kura, Gegele, Taiwo Road, Geri-Alimi, Asa-Dam and Offa Garage.

Alabi observed that the enxouraging compliance level was as a result of the cooperation of the residents and efforts of the security operatives.

He said the roads were barricaded with security agents mounting various posts to ensure compliance and order.

“The shutdown is effective as there is total compliance by the residents and the security agents are also doing an excellent job of enforcing the lockdown,” said Alabi.

He urged Kwarans to stay at home, maintain personal hygiene and social distancing in order to stay safe and healthy.

NAN reports that the state government had ordered the total lockdown of the entire state from April 10 at 6 p.m to curb the spread of COVID-19

The state government ordered that there would not  be movement of vehicles and people.

It, however, allowed foodstuff markets, food stores and pharmacy shops as well as banks to operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (NAN)
