Enugu, April 25, 2020 (NAN) The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on Saturday distributed food and non-food items to some Enugu communities to cushion the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

AVM Idi Amin, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC), NAF Ground Training Command (GTC), Enugu, distributed the items at Ojiagu-Agbani Community, near Enugu.
He said that the palliatives were part of the reach-out of NAF to commemorate its 56th anniversary.
Amin said that NAF, through the palliative was assisting the Federal and state governments in providing succour to Nigerians, especially people in NAF’s formations/schools host communities.
“The Nigerian Air Force is here to distribute these food items and other palliatives in compliance to the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, directive that the items be distributed in six geopolitical zones of the country.
“It is aimed at contributing to the efforts of the Federal and State Governments in curbing hardship occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It also serves as a means to inform and let Nigerians join us to celebrate Nigerian Air Force 56 years of meritorious service to the nation,’’ he said.
Responding, the Traditional Ruler of Ojiagu-Agbani community, Igwe Umunnabuike Ejim, thanked the CAS and NAF for making Nigeria proud all these years as well as being a “very caring military force’’.
“We will not thank you people enough for giving us food and other items meant to safe guard our lives and health in this trying time,’’ Ejim said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mr Jude Nnamani, thanked and prayed for the NAF and its “result-oriented leadership’’, adding: “I now have what I will eat for at least some weeks. I am grateful for this kindness’’.
In a related development, Mrs Hafsat Abubakar, the National President of Nigeria Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), also distributed food palliatives to 70 families in Ugboye-Abakpa community in Enugu.
Abubakar, who is the wife of the CAS, said that the palliatives were part of the association living up to its motto, ‘Service to Humanity’.
“We are also here to extend our love and ensure that this community and others across the nation join NAF in its ongoing 56 anniversary celebration,’’ she said.
