NCAT begins ND, HND, PGD programmes

Ikeja, July 30, 2019 (NAN) The Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT), Zaria, has begun admission into Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND) and Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) into various fields of academy.
The institution’s Rector, Capt. Abdulsalami Mohammed, confirmed the development to newsmen in Lagos on Tuesday.
Mohammed said that the essence of the programmes was to improve the academic knowledge of professionals in the sector.
‘’NCAT had sought and received accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for the legitimate awards of the programmes.
‘’The programmes are aimed at transforming the college in line with the vision of this current administration, so the college can compete favourably with its counterparts across the world,’’ he said.
The rector explained that for the OND, the college would be running courses in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology.
According to him, for HND, admission is available for Aviation Management, Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology (Avionics option) and Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Technology (Airframe/Power Plant Option).
Mohammed said the college was also offering PGD programme in Aviation Management (full time), which would be held in Zaria, while the part-time programme would hold in Lagos.
He explained that the admission into the various programmes would close after six weeks period, beginning from July 22.
Mohammed said: ‘’We are introducing the OND, HND and PDG programmes to interested candidates, especially those already in aviation to increase their knowledge and exposure.
‘’Just as you are aware, education is the bedrock of any society.
‘’All the courses will take place in Zaria, except the PGD, which has both full time and part-time. We decided to bring the part-time programme to Lagos to attract aviation professionals more.
‘’We discovered that most of them (professionals) are working and their tight schedules may not permit them to run such a programme in Zaria. So, we are bringing it closer to them in Lagos.’’
The rector noted that the only difference in it and the full time is just a semester.
According to him, for the full time, a student will complete the programme in two semesters, while for the part time, it is just in three semesters.
‘’We hope that this programme will further increase the knowledge of aviation professionals in the industry and will enhance professionalism,’’ Mohammed said.
He noted that since the admission form was on sale on July 22, the response had been encouraging.
The rector was optimistic that the college had enough and quality instructors to handle all the advertised courses.
He said applicants could download the form on its website: http://www.ncat.gov.ng with the payment of N10,000, saying that completed form must be accompanied with evidence of payment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NCAT was recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) in 2018 as an institution with the highest number of certified training instructors in the world for the third year running and a Regional Training Centre of Excellence.
The certification was the outcome of exhaustive statistical inspection of NCAT training facilities, instructional staff, course contents and programmes by a team of Global Aviation Training (GAT) experts.
By this recognition also, the ICAO GAT further gave NCAT more allocations and approval to conduct additional courses. (NAN)
