Abuja, June 20, 2019 (NAN) National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) will henceforth inaugurate men as members, the National President, Dr Gloria Shoda, said.

Shoda made this known during the 2019 election of officials of NCWS, FCT Chapter, held in Abuja on Thursday.

She said the association inaugurated Mr Joshua Kaura, a former director with the Area Councils Secretariat, as member; adding that more men would be screened and inaugurated as honorary members.

“He is the first man to become our member, without these men there is little we can do because we are gender friendly.

She, however, said the men would only be honorary members and were not allowed to contest positions such as national, state and local government presidents.

According to her, the inauguration of men as honorary members is in recognition and appreciation of their outstanding support to women in their various offices, homes and the society.

“These are men that have women at heart; they want our development and our progress and want to see women do better because women are working hard.

The President also added that more people would be selected as advocates and ambassadors to boost and assist the association achieve its mandate.

Ag. Secretary, Social Development Secretariat, Hajiya Sefiya Umar, represented by the Director, Gender Department, Mrs Agnes Utah-Hart, stressed the need for women to come together so they could overcome their challenges.

“I will like to advise women to work as a team; be focused to achieve more than the previous administration. We encourage them to synergise more so that the FCT will be a reference point, a model for others.

“They are part and parcel of the national secretariat that has the mandate tackle issues as they relate to gender, women and the vulnerable.

“We need to work together for humanity,’’ Umar said. (NAN)
