Keffi( Nasarawa State), July 27, 2017 (NAN) The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Thursday said it had trained 30 school leavers and artisans on business skills under its Basic Business Training (BBT).

Nasarawa State Coordinator of NDE, Alhaji Dauda Idris, made this known in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Keffi.

He said that the 30 school leavers and artisans were trained for one week.

Idris explained that the Basic Business Training (BBT) was designed to inculcate strong entrepreneurial skills in unemployed school leavers and artisans.

He said this was aimed at making the trainees to become self-reliant and enable them to contribute their quota to national development.

The coordinator said that the beneficiaries were trained on how to operate and manage their businesses as well as give their workers good working conditions.

He said they also learnt how to source for funds, business ethics, marketing, cash management, legal responsibilities, costing of products and services, among others.

Idris expressed optimism that the gesture would help to fight the high rate of unemployment, poverty, which he said, had forced youths to take to crimes, insecurity, armed robbery, drug abuse and trafficking, among others.

“Basic Business Training, as the name connotes, was designed by the directorate to train artisans and school leavers on the rudimentary aspects of business management skills.’’

He said: “most micro enterprises failed due to the lack of basic business management skills.

‘‘The training is also part of the efforts of the directorate to address the menace of unemployment or underemployment by new entrants in to informal sector,” he said.

Idris advised the beneficiaries to use the knowledge they gained to become self-reliant and to contribute their quota to national development.

The coordinator urged other unemployed Nigerians to take advantage of the agency’s various skills acquisition programmes to exit from joblessness.

He called for cooperation among the beneficiaries so as to provide job opportunities for all categories of unemployed persons, reduce abject poverty and generate wealth in the country. (NAN)
