Nekede poly rector advises staff to plan for retirement days

Owerri, Nov. 13, 2019 (NAN) Dr Michael Arimanwa, the Rector, Federal Polytechnic, Nekede in Imo, has advised members of staff of the polytechnic to plan ahead for their retirement.
The rector gave the advice on Wednesday at a pre-retirement training workshop organised by the Cooperative Thrift and Loan Society (CTLS) for prospective retirees of the polytechnic in Owerri.
Arimanwa, who was represented by the Deputy Rector in Charge of Administration, Dr Antonia Nwosu, said that it was an act of wisdom to prepare in advance for the rainy day.
Speaking on the theme: ‘Pre-retirement planning, managing a new beginning’, Arimanwa said that joining cooperative societies, such as the CTLS, would make the staff members less dependent on pensions and gratuities upon their retirement.
He further said that retirement plans were made for both prospective retirees and junior members of staff, who would also retire someday.
Arimanwa commended the CTLS members for thinking positively for the polytechnic and urged them to extend the initiative to other government owned institutions across the country.
“We must thank the CTLS for this initiative and urge staff of our institution, both old and young, to embrace the opportunity in readiness for retirement.
“An unplanned retirement can lead to an early grave, hence the need for proper planning,” he said.
In a speech, the CTLS President, Mr Obinna Okafor, pledged his continued commitment to the welfare of members of the cooperative.
Okafor said that the society would always strive to maintain good relationship with the management of the polytechnic for mutual benefits. (NAN)
