NGO provides education to children through initiative

Abuja March 17, 2020 (NAN) Springs Aid Foundation, an NGO, has provided education to no fewer that 70 indigent children with its ‘Boko Na Light’ Initiative at Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Mr Kenneth Chima, the Founder of the organisation told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the NGO was committed to improving quality of life for women and children in the country.

Chima said the initiative was meant to enlighten people, and for children to see the value of education and embrace it.

“Boko Na Light” is an initiative designed by the foundation to change the narrative of Boko Haram to Boko Na Light.

“Boko in Hausa means book or western education. So, ‘Boko Na Light’ means book is the light  and we are trying to create light that will take away the darkness of insecurity, setbacks and illiteracy.

“Thus, `Boko Na light’ is being targeted at the indigent children and out-of- school children, we first discussed with their parents and also did advocacy to the chairman of Bwari Area Council.

“However, we have started teaching the children how to read and write with local dialect of ‘Ah, Bah, Cha, Dah’, those that can read are taken to the other classes.

“The next plan is digital literacy which we will introduce to them soon, however, the current classes runs from Monday to Friday daily, we are also looking at expansion to parts of Abuja and beyond especially to the North East and North West.”

Chima said that the initiative was packaging children to become better leaders with Boko Na Light, the children would be able to read and write in both English and their indigenous language.

He said that would enhance better communication.

A parent, Mrs Aisha Hussaini, appreciated the organisation for the initiative saying “the foundation helping to provide education to her daughter makes her happy and hopeful.

Another parent, Mrs Hauwa Musa, said she and her husband were delighted when the NGO brought the ‘Boko Na Light’ Initiative.

“I thank them for this initiative that give opportunity to children of the poor to acquired education.” (NAN)
