NGO sensitises Bauchi communities on prevention of water-borne diseases

‎Bauchi, June 7, 2018 (NAN) The Bauchi State Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Media Network, an NGO, says it has commenced sensitisation of communities in Bauchi State on the prevention water-borne diseases.
Mr David Ayodele, ‎the State Coordinator of WASH Media Network, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Bauchi that the organisation was concerned with the occurrence of water-borne diseases during rainy seasons.
Ayodele said the network was committed to making people access clean water and ensure sanitation in their communities.
“Therefore, the network has to embark on sensitisation to communities on challenging issues of water and sanitation to prevent water-borne diseases.
“Due to lack of clean water and poor sanitation, many people in the rural communities are threatened with the diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera,’’ he noted.
The official lamented that lack of pipe borne water is forcing them to search and fetch water from alternative sources not hygienic for drinking.
Ayodele urged relevant government agencies and ministries to provide potable water in rural and urban communities.
The coordinator also called on the media to sensitise the people to the danger of water-borne diseases, including cholera and typhoid.
‎“The media have great role to play in sanitation which will ensure good health of the people,’’ he said. (NAN)
