Gombe, June 16, 2022 (NAN) Nigeria National League (NNL) side Doma United on Thursday won the 2022 Gombe State FA Cup after defeating Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Gombe United.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in the final match at the Pantami stadium in Gombe a penalty shootout was needed after both sides played out a goalless draw.

It ended 4-2 in favour of the NNL side after two players from Gombe United missed from the penalty kick spot.

Later on, the coach of Doma United, Umar Sadiq, said he was excited to win this year’s FA Cup in the state, describing the victory as “a gift to all our supporters.”

Sadiq said the win was a reward for hard work, commitment and dedication from his players and the coaching crew.

”This victory is encouraging and we have been heavily compensated for our hard work.”

He stated that his side would give Gombe State good representation in the 2022 Aiteo Cup by working hard to “prove our class in the competition.”

On Doma United’s chances in the NNL, Sadiq said his team was confident of securing an NPFL ticket for next season.

”Presently we are at the top of our group’s table, and we are confident we will come to NPFL next season.”

Also speaking, the chief coach of Gombe United, Bashir Saleh, told NAN that his side were unlucky as they missed several goal-scoring chances during the match.

Saleh said the result of the match was a representation of what football offered.

He, however, stated that his side would use the 2022 Aiteo Cup to secure a continental ticket.

NAN also reports that shortly after the match, there was a clash between supporters of the two sides.

But the police and other security agents brought the situation under control. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
