Damaturu, Nov 7, 2022 (NAN) The National Population Commission (NPC) has organised a two-day workshop for stakeholders on compendium of enumerated localities in the state.

Mai-Aliyu Muhammad, the NPC Federal Commissioner, explained the objective of the workshop, while declaring it open on Monday in Damaturu.

He said the aim of the National programme was to compile all the localities demarcated during Enumeration of Area Demarcation (EAD).

According to him, the enumeration would show coverage and locations on interactive maps on local government basis.

Muhammad explained that the soft copy of the local list would be given to the local government Chairmen for verification and validation.

“After due presentation and validation by stakeholders, it will be compiled into a National Compendium with requisite parameters,” he said.

He, therefore, appealed to general public to assist the commission with reliable demographic data throughout the forthcoming 2023 census.

Alhaji Yarima Mahmud, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, said census provided social, demographic, and economic information of a country for effective planning.

The NPC State Director, Mr Iyawa Madagwa, added at the end of exercise, that a final list of localities would be produced and used during the Population and Housing Census in 2023.

He also called on stakeholders to adhere to the principle of the exercise in order to produce a compendium that would be reflective of their communities. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
