Ilorin, July 16, 2017 (NAN) Goalkeeper Abdullahi Boje’s saves on Sunday helped hosts Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club of Ilorin to manage to escape defeat in the hands of Rivers United of Port Harcourt.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2016/2017 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 29 fixture at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin ended goalless.

The hosts were the first with a show of intent, when Martin Ossy within seconds into the game almost scored but his shot went wide.

Boje made the first of his outstanding saves in the 42nd minute when Bolaji Sakin’s effort stretched the goalkeeper to the limit to parry for a corner kick.

The ABS FC goalkeeper again denied Rivers United’s Bernard Ovoke a one-on-one chance in the 70th minute.

Goalkeeper Abiodun Akande made a last-minute effort to stop the hosts from breaking the deadlock in the 90th minute to earn his side a point.

Speaking after the game, the assistant coach of the team, Moshood Adebayo, said he was confident his team would beat the relegation drop in spite of the result.

“We are disappointed about this result, but we are still much in it.

“It is still a battle that is not lost yet, and we will continue to fight till the end,” Adebayo said.

NAN reports that ABS FC will now travel to Bauchi to face Wikki Tourists in a Match Day 30 fixture on Wednesday.(NAN)
